Forget Elf on a Shelf, Elf is coming to Argyle Square!

Will Ferrell as Elf

Kids driving you mad? Partner won’t plan a date night? All of the above? Or are you just looking for a sweet way to spend your Satur-yay evening this December to get into the festive spirit? Well, luckily for you, Melbourne is switching on the Christmas spirit with an open-air cinema – and it’s free!

Argyle Square in Carlton has officially undergone its annual transformation into a festive wonderland and is the ultimate way to spend your Saturday evenings in December with its FREE open-air cinema.

Fitted with festive lights, nutcracker soldiers and a throne fit for an ice queen (or king) it is the perfect spot for you to cozy up with your friend, lover or family member. You can snack your heart out and enjoy some of the cult-favourite Christmas movies under the summer stars.

This event is the perfect spot for your insta-worthy picnic. This is the opportunity to enjoy the iconic eateries of Lygon Street and surroundings. Where should you eat? The question is, where shouldn’t you eat? This strip is dotted with renowned Italian restaurants such as Capitano and Tiamo 2, DOC if you feel like a delicious artisan pizza and even the Carlton Wine Room. Heartattack and Vine also deserves a mention as a great place for casual dining and tapas. If you’re not an Italian cuisine buff, try The Green Man’s Arms, an Israeli-influenced venue where the food is completely vegetarian or vegan!

So, what are you waiting for!?

What’s showing?

  • Saturday the 11th: Elf (2003)
  • Saturday the 18th: The Polar Express (2004)
