Meta is quietly capping how many links Facebook Pages can post each month

Facebook just made your monthly content calendar a lot more complicated. If your Page is not Meta Verified, you can only post two links a month before Facebook quietly buries your reach.

Meta confirmed to TechCrunch in December that it is testing the limit on professional accounts and Facebook Pages. Miss your two link allowance and you are not banned outright. You just watch your reach disappear.

The workaround is obvious and depressingly familiar: pay up. Meta Verified starts at $14.99 a month and climbs to $500 for the top tier, which also unlocks extra links in Reels.

Some things stay unlimited. Links dropped in the comments still work fine, and so does anything pointing to another Meta property like Instagram or WhatsApp. Affiliate links are exempt too, for now.

News publishers have been carved out of the test entirely, at least for the moment. Brands, creators and small businesses running their own Page are not so lucky.

None of this should be a shock if you have watched Facebook's numbers. Meta's own transparency report shows more than 98 per cent of feed views in the US now go to posts with no link at all. The algorithm has been quietly punishing links for years. This test just puts a price tag on the workaround.

Social media strategist Matt Navarra summed it up to the BBC: Facebook is no longer a reliable traffic engine, and Meta is actively nudging brands away from treating it like one.

Marketing experts like Mari Smith are telling clients not to bother paying. Her advice is to stick with link in comments, lean into Stories CTAs and push people into Messenger DMs instead, which is exactly where Meta wants them anyway.

Here is the blunt take. If your Facebook strategy still relies on shoving external links into the feed, it was already dying and this test just makes it official. Stop fighting the algorithm and start building for it, native video, comments, DMs, whatever keeps people inside Meta's walls. Save the $500 a month and put it into ads instead. Your reach will thank you more than a blue tick ever will.
