X just gave you one more reason to actually open the reply button, and it involves a green screen.
The platform has rolled out an updated video editor and recorder built straight into the app, adding multi language captions and green screen recording to the mix. It lands alongside a new feature called React with Video, which lets you tap repost, then record your own clip reacting to someone else's post using green screen, split screen or picture in picture.
Head of product Nikita Bier announced the push, framing it as giving creators proper tools to make original content and get rewarded for it. The reaction video then sits right next to the original post, so anyone scrolling past sees the source and the response together in one hit.
This is X chasing a format TikTok and Instagram normalised years ago: the reaction clip as its own piece of content, not just a comment underneath someone else's. Green screen and split screen options mean creators do not need a separate app to layer their face over someone else's video anymore.
It is iOS only for now, and X has only confirmed Android and web are coming without giving a date. That gap matters. Half your potential creator base sitting on Android with no access is a real ceiling on how fast this actually catches on.
Still, the direction is obvious. X wants to be somewhere people make things, not just somewhere people argue about things other people made. Whether that sticks depends entirely on whether creators bother building a habit around a feature that is missing on the world's most common mobile operating system.
If you are on iOS and run any kind of commentary or reaction content, this is worth testing now while it is fresh and the algorithm is still figuring out how to reward it. Everyone else, keep an eye on your Play Store updates.
