GTA 6's new trailer broke Twitch and sent Netflix into meltdown, and it has not even launched yet

Rockstar only gave the internet 27 minutes of GTA 6 footage, and it was enough to break two entire platforms at once.
The Netflix and Twitch collaboration hosting the extended gameplay look on 27 August turned into a genuine stress test for two of the internet's biggest platforms. Twitch copped the worst of it, with Downdetector logging more than 17,000 outage reports as concurrent viewers surged past 1.8 million, most of them watching reaction streams from the likes of Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed rather than the footage itself. Netflix did not escape either, with plenty of viewers hitting error screens trying to load the exclusive premiere.
The chaos makes sense once you clock the setup. Rockstar made the extended look a Netflix exclusive for its premiere window, which meant anyone without a subscription had exactly one option: watch someone else watch it live on Twitch. That funnelled an enormous audience through one platform at exactly the same moment, and Twitch's infrastructure did not love it.
The footage itself, captured entirely from in-game PlayStation 5 play, gave fans their deepest look yet at Vice City, the dual protagonist setup and the level of detail Rockstar is chasing this time round. It is the kind of reveal built to be picked apart frame by frame, and the internet obliged within minutes.
Investors clearly were not put off by the disruption. Take-Two shares dipped briefly around the reveal before jumping as analysts called the reception overwhelmingly positive, which tracks with what anyone scrolling their feed that day could already tell you.
That release is still a way off. GTA 6 is locked in for 19 November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no PC version confirmed and Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick ruling out another delay. Three months out, and Rockstar has already generated more hype, more outages and more market movement than most studios manage in an entire launch week.
If a 27 minute preview can take down Twitch, brace yourself for launch day. Clear your calendar for 19 November, because half the internet already has.
