MrBeast is joining Shark Tank and it's basically a rescue mission for the show's ratings

Shark Tank just admitted it needs YouTube more than YouTube needs Shark Tank.
MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, is joining ABC's Shark Tank as a guest shark for season 18, debuting this fall. He will sit in alongside his own Beast Industries CEO Jeffrey Housenbold, and he is not walking in alone. The rest of the guest roster reads like a creator economy who's who: Mindy Kaling, former NFL star J.J. Watt, Diary of a CEO podcast host Steven Bartlett and Sara and Erin Foster, the 'Favorite Daughter' founders who inspired Nobody Wants This.
That lineup is the real story. Past seasons leaned on actual business heavyweights as guest sharks. This one leans hard into people who built their fortunes on platforms, not pitch decks. ABC is reportedly borrowing a page straight from Dancing with the Stars, betting that creator names drive buzz and tune in numbers in a way traditional business credentials no longer manage on their own.
There is a reason for the urgency. Shark Tank posted its lowest ratings in franchise history last season, a rough result for a show that has run since 2009 and helped mint deals like the Ring doorbell camera, which eventually sold to Amazon for a billion dollars. Mark Cuban, arguably the most recognisable shark the show ever had, left last year to spend more time with his teenagers before they leave home. Replacing that kind of star power with a lineup of creators and podcasters is either a smart pivot or a sign of how little pull traditional TV credibility carries on its own these days. Probably both.
Donaldson joins the permanent panel of Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, Daniel Lubetzky, Kevin O'Leary, Kendra Scott and Rashaun Williams, a roster built on decades of actual deal making. Whether his enormous YouTube following translates into sharp investment instincts on camera is genuinely an open question, and one Shark Tank fans will be watching just as closely as the ratings.
For marketers, the bigger signal is simple. Broadcast TV is now actively recruiting the exact people it used to treat as competition. When a legacy format needs a creator's audience to survive, that tells you who actually holds the leverage in 2026.
Shark Tank season 18 lands on ABC this fall. Set a reminder, if only to see whether MrBeast negotiates like he films: fast, loud and slightly over the top.
