Wendy’s is officially coming to Melbourne, with its first Victorian store opening on 24 June at 1A Assembly Drive, Dandenong South. The site will also be Australia’s first Wendy’s drive-thru, which makes this more than just another burger launch.

For a brand that has had years of pop-culture hype behind it, that is a big move. Wendy’s has already opened in Queensland, but this Melbourne site is the one giving Victorians their first proper shot at the full U.S. fast-food experience, square patties, Frostys and all.

The drive-thru is also doing things a little differently. Reporting says staff will work directly in the drive-thru lanes, greeting customers and taking orders on handheld tablets rather than relying only on the usual speaker-box setup.

The bigger story is that Wendy’s is clearly treating Australia as a serious growth market, with plans to open 200 restaurants nationally over the next decade. That makes the Dandenong South launch feel less like a one-off novelty and more like the start of a much bigger expansion.

So yes, Wendy’s is coming to Melbourne. It opens on June 24, it’s landing in Dandenong South, and for anyone who has spent years hearing Americans talk about Baconators like sacred texts, the wait is almost over.
