Where I'd work from a cafe all day in Sydney if the wifi and the coffee both actually needed to be good

Not every cafe wants you camped out with a laptop for four hours on one flat white. These ones do not mind at all.

Paramount Coffee Project in Surry Hills is the obvious starting point, a genuinely bustling space with reliable wifi and enough seating that grabbing a laptop spot does not feel like you are stealing a table from someone's actual breakfast. The coffee holds up to the reputation too, which is not always guaranteed once a cafe gets known as a work spot.

The Grounds of the City, tucked into the CBD, is a solid pick when you want a change of scenery without leaving the office district. It gets busy, but the space is large enough to absorb a laptop crowd alongside the usual coffee run traffic, and the food menu is strong enough to justify staying for lunch too.

Coffee Pitt, just off Pitt Street, is the smaller, quieter option for anyone who wants to actually concentrate rather than work with the radio on. Amazing coffee, a cosy fit out and a location that makes it easy to duck in between meetings if you are working from the city for the day.

For something different, Shift Eatery in Surry Hills is a fully vegan cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, and it is genuinely well set up for a full day of laptop life rather than a quick coffee and dash. Plant based breakfast options and friendly staff make it an easy recommendation even if veganism is not usually your thing.

None of these four are secret. They show up on work from cafe lists for a reason: decent wifi, enough power points, and staff who do not give you the look after coffee number two. That is a lower bar than it should be, but it is exactly why these places keep earning the recommendation.
