Anthropic, Google and Meta all dropped major new AI models within a day of each other this week

Three AI labs just proved they are all reading the same group chat.

Anthropic, Google and Meta pushed out major new models within about a day of each other this week, and if you blinked you missed at least one of them.

Anthropic went first on 1 September, dropping Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1. Fable 5.1 is built for coding, research and the kind of long, fiddly problem solving that used to mean handing a project to a human for a week. It comes with a 1 million token context window, a 128,000 token max output and thinking that stays switched on by default, and it costs less to run than Fable 5 despite doing more.

Google followed on 2 September with Gemini 3.8 Flash and a specialist sibling, Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber. The general model targets coding and agentic tasks and launched at an introductory $0.75 per million input tokens, locked in through the end of the year. The Cyber variant is the more interesting story. Google's own Chrome Security team found it produced 2.6 times more correct patches for Chrome vulnerabilities than the biggest commercial models on the market, and cybersecurity firm Wiz clocked higher recall on penetration testing at a fraction of the cost. Google's Cloud Vulnerability Research team reportedly used it to find a critical bug in under two hours, a job that normally eats months. For now it is locked down to governments and vetted partners only, which says plenty about how seriously Google is treating what this thing can do in the wrong hands.

Meta rounded out the pile up, also on 2 September, with Muse Spark 1.3, a new frontier model, alongside Muse Voice Transcribe, which follows more than 20 speakers across multiple languages in real time, and a beta multi agent coding tool called Muse Code.

None of these labs coordinated this. They are just racing each other so hard the releases are starting to collide. Good news if you like new toys. Less good news if your job is explaining to a client which model is even doing what this week.
