Brisbane's biggest Indian festival is back at Roma Street Parkland and it's free, which is the real headline

Brisbane's biggest Indian cultural celebration is back this weekend, it's completely free, and there's no ticket faff involved.

The Iconic India Day Fair returns to Roma Street Parkland on Saturday 15 August, running a full day from 10am through to 8:30pm. Now in its 15th year, it's Queensland's largest celebration of India's Independence Day and one of the bigger multicultural events on Brisbane's calendar, presented by GOPIO Queensland.

Expect Bollywood performances, traditional and contemporary music, a proper spread of Indian food stalls, market stalls, kids' activities and a fashion showcase running throughout the day. The programme officially opens with a multicultural parade stretching roughly 500 metres in front of the parkland, a colourful start before the performances take over.

The best part is the accessibility of it. No bookings, no tickets, no minimum spend, just rock up whenever suits and stay as long as you like. That makes it an easy one to build a Saturday around, whether you're going for the food, the music or just an excuse to be outside before spring properly kicks in.

Roma Street Parkland is a short walk from Brisbane's CBD and well served by public transport, so parking shouldn't be the thing that talks you out of going. With entertainment running for over ten hours straight, you could realistically turn up mid afternoon and still catch most of what's on.
