Oz Comic Con is landing in Brisbane, and cosplay season is officially back

Cosplay season is back in Brisbane, and this year there is actual cash on the table for the best costume in the room.
Oz Comic-Con lands at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, with doors open 9:30am to 4:30pm both days. Expect the usual mash-up of comics, anime and gaming, with merch stalls generous enough to wipe out an entire pay cheque by lunchtime. Gaming fans get their own corner too, with the latest console and indie titles on the floor alongside stalls selling everything from statues to plushies to art prints you will regret not buying on the day.
The guest list leans into screen and voice talent this year, with Miranda Otto joining voice actors Brandon Rogers, Lizzie Freeman, Adam McArthur and Griffin Burns for panels, photo ops and autograph sessions across the weekend. More guests and exhibitors are expected to be announced before doors open.
Cosplay remains the main event though. The Main Stage hosts the Cosplay Championships, a broader Cosplay Competition and the parades that turn the convention floor into a genuine catwalk. Queensland's Cosplay Championship winner walks away with a $1,500 cash prize, which is more than enough reason to finally finish that costume you have been putting off since last year. Cosplay Central rounds things out with free photographers, costume displays and on site repairs for anyone whose armour does not survive contact with a Brisbane crowd.
There is also a Community and Workshop Stage running fan led panels and hands on sessions covering everything from crafting to drawing, photography and editing, so it is not just a weekend for people already deep in a costume. If you are cosplay curious rather than cosplay committed, there is still plenty to do.
Brisbane's pop culture calendar does not get much bigger than this. Grab tickets, sort your outfit and get in early on the Cosplay Central queue, because 19 and 20 September will fill up fast.
