Streaming platforms are making brutal calls this week, and not everyone is getting a happy ending

Paramount+ just quietly proved that begging works. MobLand has been renewed for a third season, and the only reason anyone's talking about it is because it almost didn't happen.

Tom Hardy was reportedly wobbly on coming back. So Guy Ritchie and the producers flew to London, sat down with him and talked him into it. Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren are back too. Season two hasn't even landed yet (that's out later this month), and Paramount+ has already locked in season three. Confidence, or panic, hard to tell with streamers these days.

Netflix had its own good news story. Tires, the Shane Gillis workplace comedy nobody expected to still be running, has been renewed for a fourth season after its third run hit a new high on the platform's top ten list. Slow burn success is still success.

Now for the carnage. Disney axed Wonder Man after a single season, despite publicly renewing it for season two back in March. No writers' room ever opened. The cast found out the show was properly dead months after being told it was very much alive.

This is the same series that landed a 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and scored Yahya Abdul-Mateen II an Emmy nomination. None of that mattered. Marvel giveth, Marvel taketh away and apparently doesn't feel the need to explain itself.

The Morning Show is a gentler story, but still an ending. Apple TV has confirmed season five will be the last, wrapping up Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon's newsroom drama on its own terms rather than getting quietly shelved.

Both stars have said they wanted to close the story with intention rather than let it limp on. Given how many shows on this list didn't get that luxury, it's hard to argue with the timing.

So that's the current scoreboard: two shows saved, one gutted without warning and one getting an actual goodbye. If you needed a reminder that a renewal means nothing until the cameras are rolling, this is it.
